Well hello there and welcome back to Burnt Barn Business.
I’m writing to you from sunny England. The South Coast to be more specific. I’m back to attend MCM London. It’s my first time having my own table at this convention and I’m really looking forward to it. Only downside is that this weird problem I have with my hamstrings has reoccured, not sure if it’s from being a tall man on an Easy Jet flight, playing with my sister’s dog or moving boxes of comics around, but the results are the same, no tap dancing for Tommy.
So, if you see me walking around the convention like a 70-year-old you know why. Regardless, any of you that are planning to attend I hope you’ll pop by table H-09 and say, ‘Hello’. I’ll have a bit of everything. Frank At Home On The Farm hardcovers, the last of my Weird Work KS stock before the big Image release in July, Metallic Dynamite, Quarantine and Mugshots - it’s getting to be quite the full table!
STILL TIME TO ORDER WEIRD WORK
For anyone that missed Weird Work, my series with Shaky Kane, on the Kickstarter campaign there is still time to and just this week Image Comics revealed the four covers we have for issue 2.
As with all the issues it’s an amazing set of creators. This time along with Shaky we have Warwick Johnson-Cadwell, Brendan McCarthy and Alexis Ziritt.
Besides that things are ramping up with Shaky and I’s current secret project, variant cover artists being chosen, announcements being prepared - so, that’s all very exciting.
On top of that myself and a collaborator have just signed off a deal sheet on another four part series and are just waiting to sign the full contract, hopefully this week. That book may be the best thing I’ve ever done, so thrilled we’ve found such a good home for it.
READING AND WATCHING
I’ve been devouring the William Goldman books (legendary screenwriter of Butch Cassidy and All The President’s Men amongst many others). Both his books on screenwriting are such revealing, engrossing and entertaining reads and Goldman has such an easy way about him that you just want to spend all day listening to him tell stories and drop bits of wisdom.
I’ve also been reading James Joyce’s The Dubliners, which is what I was expecting ( didn’t realise it was a collection of short stories) but it has some absolutely beautiful writing in it, as you’d imagine.
Then since being home and reunited with my comics collection I’ve been working through the first Geoff Johns’ Flash omnibus, which is very classic, fun, superhero comics with lots of exaggerated, dramatic artwork from Angel Unzueta and Scott Kollins.
Watching wise I’ve finally started on my most anticipated current series, the final season of Succession. I’m 6 episodes in and it hasn’t disappointed so far. The emotional intensity of episodes 3 and 4 being particular standouts so far.
And well, I think that’s it for now.
I hope to see some of you at MCM and I’ll check in again next month with more news and cool artwork.
Till then, stay safe out there.

Are you there on Sunday?
