Ends and beginnings!
Welcome back to Burnt Barn Business! Where our business is burning down barns and business is ah booming.
By burning down barns of course I mean making comic books.
It’s been a pretty exciting past 24 hours for me as I received something I’d been desperate to see for almost a year - the brilliant Javier Rodriguez’s pinup for our current Weird Work campaign. Just check this out.
I absolutely adore Javier’s work and seeing him interpret mine and Shaky’s characters is just so cool! If sci-fi, noir and incredible art are your bag there are still a few hours left to grab all three issues of our series here: www.kickstarter.com/projects/burntbarncomics/weird-work-3.
I’m feeling a lot of pride as we finish up this series that I first spoke to Shaky about back in 2020. Mr. Kane has done some career-best work and I really feel like we’ve achieved what we set out to do with this story. There’s also no sadness involved in wrapping up our first project together as I know we’ll be back working together on something new early next year.
In terms of other things I’ve been up to, last night I wrapped up my 4th draft of this six-issue series I’ve been writing - a period set horror - meaning I’m ready to send it off to Clare Hemsworth to give it a look over before it goes off to a few publishers.
For those of you who first met my work courtesy of Frank At Home On The Farm, this is by far the most similar thing I’ve written to that head-spinner of a book since Frank and The Pig had their final confrontation all those years ago, and I’m very anxious to get it into an artist’s hands.
What else… what else…
Well, you should all be happy to hear Valencia isn’t so aggressively humid these days, so I’m not writing this in a pool of sweat, which makes a pleasant change.
I also spent last Saturday hanging out with my new favourite person, Iban Coello, who as well as being a brilliant artist is just the sweetest, coolest guy you could want to meet. We met up at a great little event, Jornadas de Comic de Valencia, along with Cian Tormey, who was taking a break from upsetting bigots on the internet, and Fernando Blanco. We had a lovely afternoon chatting comics over a few beers.
I also got the chance to chat to a bunch of very cool Spanish publishers at the event and have hopefully taken a few important steps towards getting my books translated into Spanish and released over here, which would be superchulo!
And that’s about it I think! Apologies that this wasn’t as fun (stupid/silly) as previous editions but having a Kickstarter in the final few hours always puts me on edge!
I shall attempt to return to more whimsy next time.
Until then, stay safe out there and be kind to each other.
Speak soon.
