Weird Work in Avilés
Hello dear followers and those who haven’t yet figured out how to unsubscribe.
A quick run down of what I’ve been up to.
I managed to get all the Metallic Dynamite rewards packed up and posted out to our wonderful backers despite having a crisis of the soul around package 300 when I started having to search around the house for various pinups. People seem to be really liking the book, which is great after working on it for a couple of years.
From there I went straight into the campaign for the final issue of the series I make with Shaky Kane, Weird Work. Shaky is putting all his Shakiness into this one as the proverbial hits the proverbial. A more colourful, bullet-ridden, shootout the world has never seen.
We got funded in about 12 hours so immediately began careening into stretch goals like a toddler drunk on apple juice behind the wheel of a Little Tikes Cozy Coupe (other small plastic cars are available).
The first of these stretch goals is an art print by the delectable Warwick Johnson-Cadwell. I’ll leave it here for your eye pleasure.
I met Warwick at Thought Bubble last year and he’s one lovely fella and I absolutely adore his take on our characters, Ovra looks so put-upon, bless him.
As well as Warwick we also have stretch goal pinups by a few more guest artists; the wonderful Javier Rodriguez (Daredevil, Defenders) and the demonically talented Frazer Irving (Batman & Robin, Annihilator).
One of the absolute thrills of making Weird Work has been the truly stellar list of guest artists we’ve managed to get on board (far more credit going to Shaky and his celebrity artist fanbase than myself for this) and it always blows my mind to see these guys bringing their style to our world.
Speaking of which, that Geof Darrow cover I shared previously has gotten itself all dressed up in Jason Wordie colours and is now ready to hit the town.
Wow-wee-mama! What a sight. I do worry about that dog though.

OTHER THINGS!!!
On top of my various Kickstarter activities I also made the voyage back to Spain and my current home of Valencia. A lovely city where I do spend absolutely every second not in an air-conditioned room covered in sweat. Tasty.
However, your intrepid hero was not in Valencia for long as I am writing this here piece of nonsense from a Gijón hotel room where I stopped for the night on my way to Jornadas del Cómic de Avilés - the finest comics-related event on the planet.
Brief tangent to give a quick run through of my journey from Valencia to Avilés:
Arrived at the airport to be told I had no seat on the plane as they had overbooked and that I would need to wait till everyone had boarded till I could know if I had been deemed worthy to enter said low-cost aircraft
Handily arrived in Asturias just as the bus I needed was getting ready to leave. Got onboard, went to pay, found I was 3€ short, that’s OK there’s a contactless reader there, not so fast, buddy, that absolutely does not work. So, instead went to buy a ticket on the app, but as it was now 19:01 and the bus was meant to leave at 7 that trip was no longer listed. Had to wait an hour for the next bus.
Arrived in Gijón then schlepped my heavy bag of clothes and comics to the hotel only to be greeted by looks of utter confusion at the front desk at the sheer concept I may have a reservation, so had to hang around whilst they figured out what had gone on. After that I did have some spectacular pulpo, steak and three glasses of red though, so all was forgiven.
Anyway, back to Avilés. Annually this picturesque little Spanish town in Asturias holds a brilliant…I guess comics celebration is best description, and it is just the best.
I was there last year with Glenn Fabry, Andy Belanger, Pepe Larraz, Javier Rodriguez, Bob Hall and Albert Monteys to name a few and I’m absolutely poppin’ with excitement to be back again this year.
The illustrious guest list this time includes Al Ewing, Ramón Pérez, Karl Kerschl, Cully Hamner and Jorge Fornés. Can. Not. Wait. I shall endeavour to take many photos and perhaps even snag some audio with some FAMOUS NAMES OF COMICS to share with you all.
I’ll be back soon with more Burnt Barn Business.
Thanks for reading.
